Cuban Albornoz draws in Swiss chess tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 7 (acn) Without risking too much, Cuban IM Carlos Albornoz signed peace with local GM Noel Studer during the eighth and penultimate round of the Accentus Young Masters 2019 chess tournament, which takes place in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.
With white pieces, the current Cuban senior champion drew this time in only 22 moves of a Queen´s Pawn Opening with Studer, who remained leader now with seven units.
Albornoz, who is only 18, is enrolled in his first important contest in Europe and now has balance of one win, one loss and six draws, thus amounting four points.
IM Lev Yankelevich, from Germany, and Russian GM Nikita Petrov also signed peace between them and with six points each seem to be the other occupants of the podium, as their closest pursuer is the also German GM Dennis Wagner who totals one less point than them.
The latter defeated the host FM Aurelio Colmenares, who continues on bottom of the standings, while Swiss FM Theo Stijve and German IM Luis Engel completed the day with successes over the local IM Oliver Kurmann and Austrian IM Dominik Horvath, respectively.
With his victory, Engel reached 4.5 points and removed Albornoz (4) from the fifth position, and are followed by Stijve (3), Horvath (2), Kurmann (1.5) and Colmenares (1) in that order.
The Accentus Young Masters 2019 is a 10-player round-robin tournament taking place from February 27 to March 7.
