Three Cubans to play in the Panamanian Professional Baseball League

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 1 (acn) Cuban right-hander pitcher Lazaro Blanco signed a contract with the squad of Chiriqui that will play from today in the 76th Panama´s Major National Baseball Championship.

Blanco, who was included in the All-Star team of the recently concluded 61st Caribbean Series, which run at the Rod Carew Stadium, in Panama City, aroused the interest of Chiriqui and in a short time the agreement could be completed.
The experienced pitcher, he is 33, will play there until April 30 next, after which he will return home for the preparation of the Cuban national team towards the Pan-American Games of Lima, Peru, and other international commitments.
This will be Blanco´s second experience in professional baseball as he previously spent a couple of seasons in the Can-Am League.
He admitted his surprise at the victory of the Panamanians in the Caribbean Series, but he praised the quality of the players from that country.
The Herrera Toros, current champion of the Caribbean Series, will also have Cuban players in their roster this season as it is expected the signing today of RHP Freddy A. Alvarez and catcher Yosvani Alarcon, the latter had a remarkable performance last season with this same team.
