HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 28 (acn) Cuban IM Carlos Daniel Albornoz will try to achieve his first win today when facing Russian IM Nikita Petrov during the continuation of the Accentus Young Masters 2019 chess tournament, held in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.
The current Cuban national senior champion will repeat white pieces against the first seed of the contest, who owns 2,585 Elo points and in his debut beat the local Aurelio Colmenares (2,335).
In the first round, Albornoz (2,577), who is only 18, drew with German Dennis Wagner
(2,587) in 30 moves of a Reti opening, according to the official website of the tournament.
The latter will now be opponent of host Oliver Kurmann (2.454), who signed peace with
German Luis Engel (2,469).
Today´s other matches will be Colmenares vs. Swiss Theo Stijve (2,333), Austrian
Dominik Horvath (2,419) against the also host Noel Studer (2,494) and Engel - German Lev Yankelevich (2,445), another who arrives at the second round after drawing in the first one.
After only one round, Petrov and Studer appear as leaders with one point, followed by Albornoz, Wagner, Horvath, Yankelevich, Engel and Kurmann, all tied with ½ unit, while Stijve and Colmenares rank both on the bottom of the standings with no point.
The Accentus Young Masters 2019 is a 10-player round-robin tournament taking place from February 27th to March 7th.
