HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 15 (acn) Athletes from 11 nations will attend from tomorrow the Cerro Pelado Granma Wrestling Tournament, based in Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.
Luis de la Portilla, president of the Cuban Federation of that discipline, told JIT that about 90 foreign wrestlers from United States, Germany, France, Morocco, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Canada, Colombia and Brazil already confirmed their assistance.
Cuba will be represented by three teams that will include its leading figures, with the exception of the triple Olympic champion Mijain Lopez and the Olympic runner-up Yasmany Lugo, both of the Greco-Roman style.
Lopez started training recently after overcoming a slight discomfort, while Lugo got injured a couple of days ago and will undergo a meniscus operation in the next few hours.
The next challenge of the Cuban wrestlers will be the World Cup, to be held next March, and later the Pan-American tournament, in Buenos Aires.
That contest on the Argentine capital will grant the definitive tickets to the Pan American Games of Lima, from July 26 to August 11, this year.
