HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 6 (acn Cuban long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarria competes today at the World Masters Championships of Torun, Poland, third stop of the IAAF World Indoor Tour 2019.

That will be the second competition of the season for Echevarria, who last February 2 finished second at the meeting of Karlsruhe, Germany.
In that contest, the Cuban athlete scored 8.08 meters, just like Swedish Thobias Nilsson Montler, who ranked first by having a second best attempt (8.04 m) than Echevarria (7.95 m), and with that result Montler prevented him from winning that tournament for the second year in a row, although last year he won with a lower record (7.97).
Daniel Osorio, Echevarria´s coach, told ACN that his pupil is physically fit, although he´s still recovering from an injury that prevented him from attending the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, Colombia.
Chosen among the Cuban 10 best athletes in 2018, Echevarria earned the gold medal in the World Indoor Championship of Birmingham, UK, last year with record of 8.46 meters, in an almost impeccable demonstration.
Then new successes came, including the 2018 universal season best (8.68m) achieved at the meeting of Bad Langensalza, Germany, in June, which is also his personal best.
