HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) Cuba closed without medals its participation in the 2019 Ivan Yariguin Golden Grand Prix that concluded yesterday in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk, where the three freestyle wrestlers who had action last Sunday lost in the discussion of the bronze medals.
The woman Milaymis Marin (72 kilograms) and men Franklin Maren (74) and Arturo Silot (86) had the opportunity to climb to the awards podium, but they all ranked fifth in their respective divisions.
In the case of Marin, Olympic youth champion last year in Buenos Aires, lost 4-5 to Mongolia´s Nasanburmaa Ochirbat, according to the official website of the contest.
In the men´s event, Maren, bronze medalist in the World Championship hosted by Budapest, last October, was also close to the podium when losing 3-4 to the local Magomed Kurbanaliev, 2016 world monarch.
Maren achieved two wins in his first bouts, but in semifinal he was beaten 10-0 by Turkish Yakup Gor, 2014 universal runner-up.
In addition, Silot was also at the gates of the medals although that option was denied by Mongolia´s Uitumen Orgodol, who defeated him 7-0.
