Slugger Despaigne leads Cuban team to Serie del CaribeHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 24 (acn) Alfredo Despaigne, recognized as the most outstanding slugger currently in Cuba, leads the team of Las Tunas, which will represent the Antillean nation in the Caribbean Baseball Series to run from next February 2-8 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

Despaigne, only Cuban player attending the last five editions of the event, is in good sportsmanship and meets the parameters of body weight, Pablo Civil, manager of the squad said in a press release.
The side also includes catchers Yosvani Alarcon and Oscar Valdes, as well as infielders Yordanis Samon, Danel Castro, Jorge Alomá, Alexander Ayala, Carlos Benitez, Yurisbel Gracial and Yordan Manduley.
In the list of 28 players, with average age of 30 years, thre will also be outfielders Jorge Johnson, Yunieski Larduet, Andres Quiala, Frederich Cepeda and Yurien Vizcaino.
Yoanni Yera (Lefty), Yariel Rodriguez, Dariel Gongora (L), Yadian Martinez, Yoelkis Cruz, Yudiel Rodriguez (L), Yosbel Alarcon, Alberto P. Civil, Freddy A. Alvarez, Lazaro Blanco, Livan Moinelo (L), Raidel Martinez and Vladimir Garcia will be the pitchers.
On the convergence on the roster of four players with similar characteristics as Despaigne, Cepeda, Castro and Benitez, Civil explained that one of them will be used as DH, while they are assessing the possibility of Despaigne to play as leftfielder.
Yovani Aragón, national commissioner of that sport, stated that the chosen ones will be training daily at Havana´s Latinoamericano stadium until the departure to the South American nation.
