Las Tunas takes 2 game lead in Cuban baseball series 'playoffsHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (acn) Las Tunas made up a 3-run deficit to achieve an 8-4 victory over Villa Clara in the second game of the grand final of the 58th Cuban National Baseball Series (SNB by its Spanish acronym).

Villa Clara started impetuously and scored three runs in the first two innings, including a solo homer by DH Carlos Benitez, but Las Tunas managed to score twice in the bottom of the second frame and took the lead in the third thanks to a solo homer by LF Jorge Johnson and
an RBI-single by 2B Jorge Aloma.
That was all for Villa Clara´s starter and loser, lefty Misael Villa, relieved by RHP Yosvani Torres, who allowed in the 5th a Johnson´s 2 RBI-single.
The win went to LHP Daniel Gongora after surrendering four runs, three earned, and six hits, with three walks and five strikeouts in 6.1 innings, while lefty Yudier Rodriguez earned the save.
By the way, Gongora set a record in SNB when beating the same rival, Villa Clara in this case, for sixth time in this season; the record dated back from 1963 when Modesto Verdura and Franklyn Aspillaga achieved five wins over Industriales and Orientales, respectively.
There were offensive highlight to Aloma, 3 for 3 with two runs and one RBI, as well as Johnson, 2 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs for the winners; while Benitez (3 for 3 with two RBIs and a home run) and 3B Yeniet Perez (2 for 4 and one run scored) shone for the losing side.
Thus, Las Tunas lead 2-0 after winning twice at home and the third game of the final will be next Tuesday in Villa Clara where it is expected a pitching duel between LHP Yoanni Yera for Las Tunas and RHP Fredy A. Alvarez, for the local side.
