Estonia and Hong Kong rule in Havana's women´s epee world cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 14 (acn) Estonia, team event, and Hong Kong, individually, were the main protagonists of the FIE Senior Women's Epee World Cup which concluded yesterday at Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.

The European side defeated 34-33 Poland in the final and Russia earned the bronze medal when beating 42-35 China.
Cuba ranked twelfth after losing 45-39 their last match against Germany, according to JIT sports publication.
In the individual event, Hong Kong´s Vivian Man Wai won the crown when beating 15-8 French Auriane Mallo, while the bronze medals went to Italian Nicol Foieta and South Korean Young Mi Kang.
The best individual performance by the locals was achieved by Yamilka Rodriguez, who finished 41st, followed by Diamelis Gonzalez (44), Seily Mendoza (83) and Yania Gavilan (95), Giselle Franco (115) and Gretel Carbonell (119).
The Havana´s Sports City Coliseum brought together 153 athletes from 29 countries in the individual tournament, including most of the leaders of the International Fencing Federation (FIE by its French acronym) ranking.
The truth is that the contest had a very high level and proof of this is that the United States team and Italian Mara Navarria, leaders of the FIE ranking, were out of the podium, Alhjadis Bandera, Cuban Fencing Commissioner, told JIT
