HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 11 (acn) Continue the preparation for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and add points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is the goal of the six Cubans who will participate from today and until next Sunday in the Women´s Epee Senior World Cup, Individual & Team, in Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.
Cuba will be present with their six best epee fencers led by Ceily Mendoza, national and 2018 Central American and Caribbean champion, and the experienced Yamilka Rodriguez, number 47 in the ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE by its French acronym).
The group also includes Grettel Carbonell, Giselle Fonseca, Yania Gavilan and Diamelys Gonzalez and is managed by the recently appointed coach Nelson Loyola.
The contest will be attended by 154 athletes from 27 countries, including many of the top fencers of the world ranking, with highlight to Italian Mara Navarria, current leader of the universal list.
Meanwhile, the team event will also be a tough competition as it includes the squad of the United States, Russia and South Korea, leaders in that order of the planet, as well as Romania (12th), Rio 2016 Olympic monarch.
