HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4 (acn) The 58th Cuban National Baseball Series enters its defining phase with the semifinal playoffs starting today. The party will begin with the attractive match between Las Tunas, home club, and Ciego de Avila.

The first game will face two of Cuba's best pitchers: left-hander Yoanny Yera (Las Tunas), who will reappear after a prolonged break after quitting from playing with Holguin in the second stage; and RHP Lazaro Blanco, only one with seven wins in the second phase in addition to excellent ERA of 3.54.
The other semifinal match will be between Sancti Spiritus, revelation of the tournament, and Villa Clara, starting in the house of the first ones.
Jose Raul Delgado, manager of the local side, announced as starter to RHP Frank L. Medina, reinforcement from Pinar del Rio who played with Industriales in the second phase, who finished as ERA leader in the qualifying stage with 2.76.
Meanwhile, Eduardo Paret, Villa Clara head coach, has the dilemma of choosing between RHPs Fredy Asiel Alvarez or Alain Sanchez. The first had win/loss balance of 7-7 with 3.69 of ERA, while Sanchez was the top winner of the team with nine wins and second in ERA (2.97) of the series.
