Cuban Caceres signs contract with Nicaraguan professional baseball team

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (acn) Cuban Maikel Caceres signed a contract to play with the Indios del Boer, team of the Nicaraguan Professional Baseball League (LNBP by its Spanish acronym).

Authorized by the National Institute of Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym), this will be Caceres´ third season with the Indios.

Caceres, 35, previously played with the squad from the Nicaraguan capital in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and even finished second in batting average (.393) in one of them.

His professional debut was in 2015 with the Margarita Bravos of the Venezuelan Professional League where he batted .370, but as he didn´t start the tournament with the team, he didn´t had the regulated at-bats to be chosen as Rookie of the Year.

Last season, he played with the club ASD Rimini of the Italian Baseball League (IBL) with which he won the Scudetto, equivalent of national monarch.

The outstanding utility, he plays both as second baseman and outfielder, has been enrolled in eight Cuban National Series where he has BA of .307 with 23 homeruns and 200 RBIs, but in the first stage of the current season he ranked first in hits (77), second in BA (.416) and third in homers (10) and RBIs (41), according to the official stats of the Cuban Baseball Federation.
