HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 27 (acn) Cuban Roel Santos, hired by the Barranquilla Caimanes in the Colombian Professional Baseball League (LCBP by its Spanish acronym), expressed his desire to be champion in that tournament, in which he participates for the first time.

The Barranquilla Caimanes appear on top of the standings with 12 wins and 5 losses, followed by the Sincelejo Toros (10 - 7), the Cartagena Tigres (6 - 10) and the Monteria Leones (5 - 11).
Santos is being used as leadoff hitter and center fielder, as he usually does with the Granma Alazanes in his country and with the Cuban national team, with which he has attended many international events, including the 4th World Baseball Classic (WBC).
With experience in the Cuban National Baseball Series (SNB by its Spanish acronym), the Canadian-American League (Can-Am) and the Japanese Professional League (NPB), he told ACN that the level of the LCBP grows with the incorporation of foreign players as each team usually hires 10 of them, although only five can play in each game.
So far, Santos has offensive average of .343, with 12 hits, including a double and a triple, with eight runs scored and three RBIs, two stolen bases, two walks and an equal amount of strikeouts.
Thrice SNB champion, one with the Pinar del Rio Vegueros and two with Granma, this season he missed most of the SNB first stage due to an ankle injury.
The LCBP qualifying stage should be extended until late December, to then define the monarch on early January 2019.
