HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 1 (acn) Cuba will face Belize today on the opening day of the 2018 CONCACAF U20 Men´s Championship attended by 34 teams from November 1 to 21, in the IMG Academy, of Bradenton, Florida, USA.
Unlike the previous format, which included regional qualifiers in the Caribbean and Central America areas, and a final championship, this year's competition guarantees that all participating teams have access to more high-level matches.
After an initial phase of six groups, the winners of each pool will advance to the qualifying round, where they will be divided into two three-team groups.
The competition will determine the four CONCACAF representatives at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland and it will also determine the CONCACAF teams playing at the 2019 Pan American Games men's soccer tournament in Lima.
The Cuban squad, coached by Raul Gonzalez, who qualified Cuba for the 2013 World Cup in Turkey, will play in Group D, which also includes the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Marten, rivals in this order on November the 3rd. 5, 7 and 9, in that order.
