Cubans did not improve results in final round of World Chess OlympiadHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 5 (acn) Both Cuban squads yielded 1.5-2.5 to their respective rivals in the 11th and final round of the 43 rd Chess Olympiad of Batumi, Georgia.

The women´s team lost to the strong French side, but there was highlight again to WIM Yerisbel Miranda (2239 Elo points), Cuba´s best player in the tournament by far, who beat in the fourth board WIM Cecile Haussernot (2237).
But, on the first two tables, IM Lisandra Ordaz (2415) and WGM Yaniet Marrero (2281) both lost to their very tough contenders, GM Marie Sebag (2480) and IM Almira Skripchenko (2414), in that order, while WGM Maritza Arribas (2243) drew with WGM Pauline Guichard (2390), according to the tournament official website.
After these results, the Cuban side amounted 14 points and appeared 27 th in the standings, three seats back of its performance in the last edition of Baku 2016 and far behind its best performance achieved in Khanty-Mansiysk 2010, where they finished fourth.
China, defending monarch, won the crown again after totaling 18 units, tied with Ukraine although with better tiebreaker, while Georgia 1 (17) followed them.
Meanwhile, in the Open section, Cuba was beaten by the same score by Slovenia mainly due to GM Isan Ortiz (2527) lost in the second board to GM Matej Sebenik (2570), as the rest of the crew, GMs Yuri Gonzalez (2566), Omar Almeida (2540) and Yasser Quesada (2523), all drew with their respective opponents.
The Caribbean side ranked 61st in the standings with a total of 12 units, thus starring its worst outcome in these tournaments.
