HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 1 (acn) Cuba won two silver medals in the men's and mixed doubles events in the 5th International Badminton Tournament based in Guatemala.
According to the contest website, the Cuban pair of Leodannis Martinez and Taymara Oropesa lost 0-2 (12-21 and 18-21) to Canada´s Joshua Hurlburt and Josephine Wu.
Thus, the Canadian pair achieved the title in the mixed doubles and earned 2.500 points to the world ranking; while the Cuban duet won 2.130 units for the universal list.
In addition, Martinez and Osleni Guerrero also lost 0-2 (12-21 and 17-21) in the final of the men´s doubles to the locals Ruben Castellanos and Anibal Marroquin.
Guerrero, Cuba´s leading figure, earned the bronze medal in the men's single event when losing in semifinals to Guatemalan Kevin Cordon, who then won the title after beating American Timothy Lam in the final.
The women´s single event was won by Canadian Talia Ng; while in the women´s doubles, Ng joined forces with Wu to win the crown.
