Cuban women beat Iceland in 43rd Chess OlympiadHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 27 (acn) The Cuban women´ s team beat 3.5-0.5 Iceland during the fourth round of the 43rd Chess Olympiad underway in the Georgian city of Batumi, while the men´s squad lost 1.5-2.5 to Moldova.

According to the official website of the tournament, the wins of the Caribbean women went to IM Lisandra Ordaz (2415 Elo points), WGM Maritza Arribas (2243) and WIM Yerisbel Miranda (2239) in the 1st, 3 rd and 4th boards, while WGM Yaniet Marrero (2281) drew in the second table.

The Cuban women´s side now ranks 29th and in today´s fifth round will face Estonia who appears 37th.

Meanwhile, in the Open Group, GM Yuri Gonzalez (2566) lost in the second board to GM Viorel Iordanescu (2591) while GMs Yusnel Bacallao (2588), Isan Ortiz (2527) and Yasser Quesada (2523) all drew their respective games in the 1st, 3rd and 4th tables.

Now they appear 45th in the ranking and their opponent today is Switzerland (50th).

So far, Bacallao and Ortiz remain unbeaten in the Cuban men´s team, with highlight to the first of them as he has achieved 3 wins and a draw defending the first board, while WIM Lisandra Llaudy (2294), who rested yesterday, and Miranda are also undefeated in the women´s squad, although the latter has been excellent as she amounts 3 wins in same amount of games.
