HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 27 (acn) Erislandy Savon earned the decisive win that allowed the Cuba Domadores to beat 3-2 the Kazakhstan Astana Arlans in the first leg (C1 format) of the 8th World Series of Boxing (WSB) grand final.
The win of the current heavyweight world champion joined to those of bantam Osvel Caballero and light-welter Andy Cruz allowed the Caribbean island taking the lead in the final held in the Chinese city of Xiamen.
Savon easily defeated 3-0 southpaw Nurbol Altayev, while the also universal monarch Cruz beat 2-1 Dilmurat Mizhitov, thus remaining unbeaten in 15 WSB bouts, but the pleasant surprise came through the debutant Caballero, who earned a 3-0 verdict over Ilyas Suleimenov, current Asian champion.
The losses of the Cuban side went to the also newcomers in the Domadores squad, light-flyweight Damian Arce and middleweight Osley Iglesias, who both lost 3-0 to Temirtas Zhussupov and Abilkhan Amankul, the latter 2017 world runner-up.
The second leg of the 8th WSB grand final will take place next Friday in Jinjiang city, also in China, where the Domadores exponents will by the fly Jorge Griñan, light Lazaro Alvarez, welter Roniel Iglesias, light-heavy Julio Cesar La Cruz and super-heavy Jose Angel Larduet.
If an extra combat were necessary to decide the match, Cuba´s representative would be the light welter Jorge Moiran.
