HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (acn) Cuban Yurisbel Gracial is having a terrific debut season in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB).
The Caribbean utility, he has been used both in the infield and outfield, was hired last February by the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, current NPB champions.
In the his last game, Gracial batted 1 for 2 with a solo homer and two walks in the 2-0 win of his team over the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
Now he has batting average of .310, result of 45 hits in 145 at-bats, with 4 doubles, one triple, 8 homeruns and 25 RBIs in only 41 games, according to the NPB official website.
Currently, the Hawks appear second in the Pacific League, six games behind the leaders, the Saitama Seibu Lions.
The also Cubans Alfredo Despaigne and Livan Moinelo also play with the NPB defending monarchs.
OF/DH Despaigne, who recently reappeared after recovering from an injury, has BA of .238, with 12 doubles, a triple, 26 homers and 64 RBIs in 103 matches.
The Cuban slugger was last season´s HR and RBI leader in the NPB Pacific League.
Meanwhile, lefthander Moinelo is being used as setup reliever and has balance of 5 wins and only one loss, with a 4.64 ERA after allowing 22 runs and 30 hits in 42.2 innings, with 55 strikeouts and 24 walks.
