HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 21 (acn) Three Cubans were involved in the 9-7 win of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks over the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters last night in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB).
RF Yurisbel Gracial highlighted by hitting 3 for 5 with two runs batted-in and now has BA of .309, with 6 homeruns and 23 RBIs in 39 games, while DH Alfredo Despaigne, in his second match after recovering from an injury, batted 1 for 5 as clean-up hitter and his BA lowered to .235, with 25 homers and 62 RBIs.
Gracial is debuting this year in the NPB, but Despaigne was homerun and RBI leader last season in the NPB Pacific League with 35 and 103, respectively.
Another Cuban, lefthander pitcher Livan Moinelo, also saw action in this match and allowed one run and two hits, including a solo homer, with three strikeouts (SO) in 2.1 innings, but had no decision, and now amounts 5 wins and 1 loss, with 55 SO in 42.2 innings and ERA of 4.64 as setup reliever of the Hawks.
The Hawks, defending champions, have now balance of 71 wins and 55 losses, ranking second, six games behind the Saitama Seibu Lions, in the standings of the Pacific League and are followed by the Fighters, who appear 10 games behind the leaders.
