Cuban wins the NORCECA U21 Men's Continental Volleyball TournamentHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 3 (acn) Cuba earned the crown and the only ticket to the FIVB 2019 World Championships by beating the Dominican Republic in the final of the NORCECA U21 Men's Continental Volleyball Tournament based in Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.

The local side won 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20) thus improving the bronze medal they won in the last event at Gatineau 2016, where the United States and Canada led in that order.
Cuban Jose Carlos Romero was the match scoring leader with 16 points and was supported by Julio Cardenas (12), while Dominican Bayron Valdez (15) was again the best of his team.
"The current generation of the national senior team is very good and we hope these boys to join them because they also have great talent and if adding some from lower generations we can aspire again to be included on the world level¨, said Jesus Angel Cruz, head coach of the Cuban squad.
Romero was the tournament MVP while Valdez was the scoring leader with 113 points.
Cuban Cardenas and Valdez were the best attackers, in that order, while Akeil Williams, from Barbados, and Canada´s Fynnian McCarthy were the best blockers.
Dominican Erick Villar was chosen as best libero and receiver, American Jaylen Jasper was the leader in aces and his teammate Blake Crisp was the best setter, while Nicaragua´s Jordan Carcache highlighted in defense.
Canada defeated USA in the bronze medal match and Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua and Barbados followed them, in that order.
