HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (ACN) Canada and the Dominican Republic classified for the semi-finals in the North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Tournament underway in Havana's Sports City Complex.
After the victories before Barbados and Nicaragua, the Canadians and Dominicans will face Cuba and the United States, teams that directly advanced to the semifinals for being undefeated in Groups A and B, respectively.
The US team defeated Barbados on Thursday 25-13, 25-14 and 25-20 while the Dominicans won 3 sets to 0 (25-13, 25-19 and 25-17).
The Cubans and US players defeated 3 to 0 and 3 to 1 the Dominican squad and Canadians respectively.
Cuba took control in Group A with 3 victories and no defeats followed by the Dominican Republic 2-1, Barbados 1-2 and Guatemala 0-3, while the US also dominated but in Group B 3 wins and 0 losses followed by Canada 2-1, Nicaragua 1-2 and Haiti 0-3.
The defending champions, US team is the favorite to win the Gold, while Cuba and Canada, silver and bronze in the 2016 edition are expected to finish 2nd and 3rd.
