Cuba remains Unbeaten in Regional Volleyball TournamentsIn HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 29 (acn) Cuban volleyball players will try today to maintain the status of undefeated in the NORCECA U21 and U18 tournaments, for men and women respectively, and the Pan American Men´s Cup staged in Havana, Tegucigalpa and Veracruz, in that order.

In the Cuban capital, the U21 team coached by Jose Cruz will fight today for their third win when facing the Dominican Republic, after having previously beaten Guatemala 3-0 (25-17, 25-18 and 25-13) and Barbados (25-13, 25-17 and 25-11).
Julio Cardenas, with 11 points, stood out in the last victory over Barbadians and was supported by Jose Romero (10).
Meanwhile, the U18 girl´s squad will try to remain unbeaten when clashing with the DR in the Honduran capital as they previously won 3-0 (25-19, 25-20 and 25-20) over Canada to then overwhelm also 3-0 (25-11, 25-15 and 25-12) Costa Rica.
Yaimara Garcia and Thainalien Castillo excelled in the last victory against Costa Rica, both with 14 units, followed by captain Thalia Moreno (11) and Dayana Martinez (10).
According to the official websites of these tournaments, the best team of each Poole will advance directly to semifinals this Friday, while those ranking second and third will play the quarterfinals on Thursday to then fight for the medals on Saturday.
Finally, Veracruz, Mexico, will host the second match of the Cuban men´s senior side this time against Guatemala; in their debut they beat 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-19 and 25-20) Chile, with highlight for Miguel Angel Lopez, with 21 points, and Miguel David Gutierrez (14).
Both NORCECA contests grant one ticket each to next year world championships, while the Pan American Cup in Mexican soil awards five berths for the Pan American Games of Lima 2019.
