BARRANQUILLA, Colombia, Jul 23 (ACN) The Cuban women’s basketball team secured a post for the finals defeating their Mexican counterparts on Monday 86 to 58 during the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games underway in Barranquilla.
The Cuban team scored 22-17; 23-10; 19-18 and 22-13 in each of the quarters based on defense and superiority in the offense.
Cuban Yamara Amargo was the leader in points scoring 26, Suchitel Avila, and Anisley Galindo with 14 each, while the Mexican players Alexis Castro scored 18 and Daniela Pardo with 16.
The women’s squad will go against either Puerto Rico or Colombia for the Gold in the finals scheduled for Tuesday night.
Cuba dominated women’s basketball in the previous Games in Veracruz in 2014 followed by Puerto Rico and Mexico.
