Cuban Fournier wins gold in men´s single sculls


HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 23 (acn) Cuban Angel Fournier shone again on the Lake Calima, in Cali city, when winning the gold medal in the men´s single sculls event of the rowing tournament of the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games running until August 3 in three Colombian cities.
With time of 6: 57.87 minutes, Fournier was followed by Mexican Juan Cabrera (6: 59.01) and Puerto Rican Joseph Purman (7: 18.22), respectively.
Thus, the Cuban rower ended his participation in the contest with three gold medals - same figure achieved four years ago in Veracruz -, because in the previous days he also won the coxless pair and the double sculls events, both with Adrian Oquendo.
In the same venue, Aime Hernandez and Yariulvis Cobas were the champions in the women's double sculls with time of 7: 20.29 minutes, escorted by Mexican Kenia Lechuga-Maite Arrillaga (7: 23.57) and Salvadorans Adriana Escobar-Jessica Hernandez (7: 42.19), in that order.
In addition, the also Cubans Maximo Arango and Ismel Barcelo rank third in the final of the men´s lightweight coxless pair with time of 7: 15.83 minutes.
The event was won by the Mexican duet of Francisco Gonzalez-Adolfo Peralta (7: 09.15), followed by Venezuelans Agustin Betancourt and Luis Ollarves (7: 15.26).
Cuba closed the rowing competition with five gold, equal amount of silver and one bronze medal, result with which they were below what was achieved in the edition of Veracruz 2014, in which they starred perfect performance in the 10 summoned events.
