HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29 (acn) Cuba lost as visitor to Puerto Rico in the fifth competitive day of the qualifying tournament for the China 2019 FIBA Men´s Basketball World Cup.
At the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, the Cuban team was beaten 80-84 despite winning the first half with a score of 42-35, but the locals managed to win the second leg 49-38 to earn the overall victory.
The forward Jasiel Rivero, who scored 31 points, offensively highlighted for Cuba, followed by guards Osmel Oliva (15) and Yuniskel Molina (14).
The negative note of the match was the poor performance, only scored four points, by pivot Javier Justiz, who plays for the club San Lorenzo, champion of the Argentine League.
With that result, the Cuban men's team further sank into the bottom of Group C with five consecutive defeats; while Puerto Rico now has balance of three wins and two losses.
United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico already advanced to the next round for this Poole.
The final match of this tournament for the Cuban team will be next July 1st at the Havana´s Sports City Coliseum, where they will face the Americans.
