HAVANA, Cuba, May 31 (ACN) Cuba obtained three medals during the 4 th Diamond Athletics League in Rome thanks to long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarria and Discuss throwers Yaime Perez and Denia Caballero.
Echevarria, Gold Medalist in the Indoor World Athletics Championship held last March in Birmingham, Britain, jumped 8.53 meters and won the Silver Medal while South African Luvo Manyonga got the Gold.
Manyonga, who jumped 8.58 meters got the title with the best jump of the season and got revenge before the Cuban who had beaten him in the Indoor Championship.
The Cuban long jump star made his debut on Thursday at the Diamond League obtaining the best mark this year outdoors.
Cuban long jumper Maykel Masso barely made it to 8th place with a discreet jump of 7.92 meters, while Bronze went to South African Ruswahl Samaai with 8.34.
Meanwhile, Cuban Perez and Caballero, won Silver and Bronze respectively, similar to the competition last May 4th in Doha, Qatar.
Perez, who finished 4th in the Indoor Championship in London, got a Silver medal throwing the discuss 66.62 meters, only 20 cm less than what she got in Qatar.
Caballero, World Champion in Beijing 2015 and owner of a Bronze during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, finished third once again, this time with a launch of 63.48 meters, which was far from what she is capable of throwing.
