HAVANA, Cuba, May 28 (acn) Cuban Jorge Felix Alvarez had a terrific performance when finishing third in the men´s 25m rapid fire pistol event of the 2018 ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pistol events held in Munich, Germany.
Alvarez won the bronze medal after scoring 25 points in an event won by Chinese Lin Junmin (32), followed by the local Oliver Geis (30), according to the website of the tournament.
His feat included leaving out of the awards podium top figures such as French Clement Bessaguet, Russian Alexander Alifirenko (16) and German Christian Reitz, Rio 2016 Olympic champion and leader of the global ranking.
Alvarez, 29, had previously participated only once at this level (Gabala, Azerbaijan, in 2015) and his best result was the fourth seat in the Copa de las Americas in Guadalajara 2014, in addition to the sixth place in the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
The also Cuban Leuris Pupo, London 2012 Olympic monarch, finished 21 st in an event attended by 71 shooters.
