HAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (acn) Cuba drew with Puerto Rico in the third match day the 2018 CONCACAF Women´s Championship qualification, Caribbean Zone, Group A, based in the Dominican Republic.
According to the official website of the tournament, Puerto Ricans took advantage of their good beginning and by the end of the first-half they were winning 2-0 thanks to goals by Karina Socarras, at 15th minute, and Rachel Thun (22´).
But in the second-half, Cubans improved their performance and managed to level the score through Rachel Pelaez (71´) and Lilian Perez (82´).
Now Cuba has balance of 2 wins, a draw and no loss and continues on top of the standings with 7 points, followed by Puerto Rico (5), Aruba (3), the DR (1) and Anguilla (0) and is virtually the group winner as it only has to face Anguilla, so far the weakest of this Pool, next Sunday.
The group leader will get the ticket to the Caribbean final round, in place yet to be defined, from August 25 to September 2, among the five first-round group winners.
The best-three in that second round advance to the final tournament, to be held in United States, from next October 4 – 17, which grants three tickets to the 2019 FIFA Women´s World Cup.
