Cuban Guerrero wins in debut at Pan Am Badminton ChampionshipsHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 27 (acn) Cuban Osleni Guerrero won in his debut in the men's singles event of the 2018 Pan Am Badminton Championships, which 22nd edition takes place in Guatemala until next Sunday 29.

Guerrero, current runner-up of this contest, beat 2-0 (27-25 and 21-17) Guatemalan Christopher Alexander Martinez, in 35 minutes.
Fourth seeded, the best Cuban player is one of the serious contenders to the medals, along with his teammate Leodannis Martinez, who ranked third last in this competition.
The latter, fifth seed, also debuted successfully by defeating 2-1 (21-14, 8-21 and 21-14) Mexican Luis Armando Montoya, according to the official website of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Reyes, third Cuban player in the men´s singles event, got his second win by easily beating 2-0 (21-2 and 21-7) American Mathew Fogarty.
In the women´s singles event, Cuban Taymara Oropesa won 2-0 (21-15 and 21-12) over Brazilian Jeisiane Alves, but Cuba´s two other players, Yeily Ortiz and Adriana Artiz, both lost in their debuts in an event that grants five thousand points to the world ranking to the winners of each event.
