HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 25 (acn) The 53rd edition of the Capablanca in Memoriam International Chess Tournament, to be held from nest May 8-20 at Havana Libre Hotel, wil be a major festivity.
The prestigious contest will feature in three groups, Elite, Open and a third named Finding Capablanca, which will include 100 children.
The Elite group will be made up by six players; including Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon (2657 Elo points), second seed of the event.
This group also includes American Samuel Shankland (2671), Russians Aleksey Dreev (2653) and Aleksandr Rakhmanov (2652), Spanish David Anton (2653) and Venezuelan Eduardo Iturrizaga (2624).
Indian Krishnan Sasikiran will not be present to defend the crown he won last year; while the Open group will feature 150 competitors in a tournament that will be attended by players from 20 countries.
Carlos Rivero, Cuba´s national chess commissioner, said in a press release that the official inauguration will be on May 8th at 9 pm and will include other activities such as launching of books and philatelic exhibitions.
