HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 17 (acn) The 17 Cuban judokas that will attend from next April 20-22 the 2018 Pan-American Senior Championships of San Jose, departed for Costa Rica with the purpose of getting the 14 tickets (men and women) to the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
The leading figures of the Cuban squad are the woman Idalis Ortiz (+78 kilos), Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalist in London 2012, Rio 2016 and Beijing 2008, in that order; and the man Asley Gonzalez (90 kg), London 2012 Olympic runner-up and Rio 2013 world champion.
There are also highlight to Jose Armenteros (100 kg) and Onix Cortes (70 kg), runner-up and world bronze medalist in Cheliabinsk 2014, Russia, respectively.
The men´s team is completed with Yandri Torres and Roberto Almenares, both in the 60 kg division, Osniel Solis (66), Magdiel Estrada (73), Jorge Martinez (81), Ivan Silva (90 kg) and Andy Granda (+100).
Meanwhile, the women´s side also includes Melissa Hurtado (48), Yarisleidys Hernandez (52), Analis Dorvigni (57), Maylin del Toro (63), Olga Masferrer (70) and Kaliema Antomarchi (78).
The San Jose 2018 Pan-American Senior Judo Championship will be attended by 227 athletes from 25 nations.
