HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 11 (acn) With an excellent performance in the second half, the Cuban women's soccer team beat 4-2 Nicaragua, in the first of two friendly matches based at Havana´s Pedro Marrero stadium.
Nicaragua opened the score at the 8th minute when forward Yansi Aguirre beat goalkeeper Lucilema Martinez, but the local side managed to equalize soon through playmaker Yamitsleydis Nuñez, who scored a tremendous shot from 25 meters.
The visitors took the lead again when Katherine Pereira headed home the ball at 35th minute.
But in the second half, veteran forward Rachel Pelaez entered as a substitute and changed the face of the local side and, along with the performance of attacking midfielder Maria Luisa Perez, MVP of the game, helped Cubans starring a major comeback.
Perez herself scored Cuba´s second goal at the 53´ in a magnificent play in which she dribbled past two opponents before scoring, and at the 84' she assisted forward Lilian Perez, who set the score 3-2.
The final and definitive Cuban goal came at the 86' through the sub Pelaez.
The second game of this friendly match will take place next Thursday in the same venue.
