HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 6 (acn) Nine Cubans are already in the United States to compete in the 2018 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup of Iowa, on April 7th and 8th.
Julio Mendieta, head coach of the Caribbean squad, told ACN that his team includes the world medalists Yowlys Bonne (61 kg), Alejandro Valdes (65), Livan Lopez (74) and Reineris Salas (97).
The list also includes Reineris Andreu (57), Franklin Maren (70), Yoan Zulueta (79), Yurieski Torreblanca (86), and Yudenni Alpajon (125).
Cuba earned the ticket to this tournament as they ranked seventh in the 2017 World Championships in Paris, France, where they won two bronze medals through Bonne and Valdes.
The 2018 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup will be attended by the eight best ranked countries in the world, including United States, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Japan, Cuba, Kazakhstan and Iran, defending champion.
