HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 15 (acn) The 19th edition of the international badminton tournament Giraldilla de La Habana, running until next Sunday 18, starts today in Havana with the presence of nine Cubans led by Osleni Guerrero.
The contest will also be attended by 14 foreign players from five countries, with highlight to the United States that registered two athletes in each sex; while Canada will feature two in the men´s event, Guatemala (1 man and 4 women), Mexico (1-1) and Panama (one man).
The winners of each of the five events will earn 1,700 points for the world ranking.
In adittion to Guerrero, six-time champion of this competition, Cuba´s other players will be Leodannis Martinez, Ernesto Reyes, Lazaro Madera, Angel Herrera; as well as women Tahimara Oropeza, Thalia Mengana, Adriana Artiz and Yeily Ortiz.
Precisely the latter, won along with Guerrero the mixed doubles event at the Jamaica International Tournament, in early March.
