HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 15 (acn) Led by Asley Gonzalez, the 10 Cuban judokas who will participate on next March 17th and 18th in the Lima Open departed for Peru where they will continue their preparation towards the Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Gonzalez (90 kilos), London 2012 Olympic runner-up and Rio 2013 world champion, will internationally reappear after his recovery from surgery due to an injury in the right knee.
Andres Taño, Cuban national judo methodologist, told ACN that along with Gonzalez, the other men of the squad are Kevin Fernandez and Yandry Torres, both in the 60 kilos division, Osniel Solis (66) and Magdiel Estrada (73).
Meanwhile, the list of the five women includes Janisleidis Ponciano (48), Yurisleidis Hernandez (52), Maylin del Toro (63), Olga Masferrer (70) and Santa Romero (78).
The 2018 Lima Judo Open grants 100 points to the winners of each division to the world ranking.
Cuba already qualified its entire both teams (men and women) to the Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
Next April, from 21 to 23, both Cuban squads will also attend the Pan-American Championship in Costa Rica, a contest that awards tickets to the 2019 Pan-American Games, in Lima.
