Eight Cuban Boxers win Berths to Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games

Eight Cuban Boxers win Berths to Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean GamesHAVANA, Cuba, Mar 13 (acn) The Cuban boxing team won two more tickets and its harvest arose to eight spots to the Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held in Barranquilla, Colombia, from July 19 to August 3 next.

Cuba´s two berths achieved on the second competitive day of the Central American qualifying tournament based in the Mexican city of Tijuana went to the Olympic champion Arlen Lopez (75 kg) after beating 2-1 Guatemalan Lester Martinez, and Erislandy Savon (91), universal monarch, who unanimously defeated Dominican Joaquin Berroa.
Thus, Lopez and Savon will join Robeisy Ramirez (56), Lazaro Alvarez (60), Andy Cruz (64), Roniel Iglesias (69), Julio Cesar La Cruz (81) and Jose Larduet (+91), who got their tickets to Barranquilla last Sunday.
But not everything was rosy for the Cuban squad, as Yosbany Veitia (52) was affected by a feverish state that prevented him from passing the medical check-up, and the twice world monarch Joahnys Argilagos (49) abandoned the delegation, turning his back on the commitments contracted with his country.
With this scenario, Cuba won´t be able even to match in Barranquilla the balance it reached four years ago, in Veracruz, where its boxing squad won nine gold medals and only light-flyweight Santiago Amador left the tournament without medal.
