HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 26 (acn) Cuba defeated 6-3 Nicaragua in the third and final game of the friendly match between both teams at Dennis Martinez Stadium, in Managua.
The game was tied 3-3 in tenth frame when 3B Lazaro Cedeño, who had previously won the homerun derby, blasted a two-RBI double to then score propelled by single by C Yunior Ibarra, who was making his debut with the Cuban national side.
The Caribbean squad left 12 men on bases, especially against the local starter Gustavo Martinez, 41, and they were losing 1-3 but managed to tie the game when scoring one run each in the seventh and eighth innings.
1B Guillermo Aviles was Cuba´s best batter in the game when hitting 3 for 4, while Hilton Calderon highlighted for the locals also with three hits.
The win went to reliever Jose Angel Garcia, who pitched two scoreless innings and closer Vladimir Garcia earned the save
Thus, Cuba won the three games of the match as they had previously beaten Nicaragua 6-4 and 7-1 on Friday and Saturday respectively.
