HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (acn) Cuban Cristian Napoles won the gold medal in the men´s triple jump event of the Copernicus Cup, based in Torun, Poland, fifth stop of the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Tour.
According to JIT sports publication, Napoles reached 16.90 meters and was followed by Cuban-born Azeri Alexis Copello (16.89), Berlin 2009 WC bronze medalist, and Portuguese Nelson Evora (16.80), world and Olympic champion and current European indoor monarch.
Napoles, 2016 world junior silver medalist, scored 17.02 meters - his indoor personal best - last Monday in Lievin, France, and in just two weeks will attend the Birmingham World Indoor Championship, in England.
Cuba will attend the aforementioned competition with a small delegation that includes Yarisley Silva, world champion and Olympic medalist in women´s pole vault, heptathlonist Yorgelis Rodriguez, Yoandys Lescay (men´s 400m), short hurdler Roger Valentin Iribarne, Yanniuvis Lopez (women´s shot put), Juan Echevarria and Maikel Masso (men´s long jump) and Andy Diaz (men´s triple jump).
