Senior Women´s Epee World Cup in Havana on January 19

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 4 (acn) Led by Estonian Julia Beljajeva, first in the ranking of the International Fencing Federation (FIE by its French acronym), some 80 athletes from 35 nations will compete in the 2018 Senior Women´s Epee World Cup that will host Havana from next January 19 to 21.

The contest, with seat at PABEXPO fairgrounds, includes individual (Friday and Saturday) and team (Sunday) events.
Beljajeva, 25, bronze medalist at Leipzig 2017 World Championships, has as best achievement the crown she won in Budapest 2013 WC.
According to FIE, in the Cuban capital will also compete eight other fencers ranked among the 20 best on the planet.
They are Chinese Yiwen Sun (3), Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist, Polish Ewa Nelip (5), second in Leipzig, and South Koreans In-jeong Choi (6), Young-Mi Kang (12) and A-Lam Shin (19).
The list also includes American Kelley Hurley (14), Japanese Ayaka Shimookawa (15) and Estonian Irina Embrich (20).
Yamilka Rodriguez heads the local squad that is coached by seasoned trainer Pedro Enriquez.
The team event will be attended by the squads of Canada, China, Spain, Estonia, Poland, Switzerland, Japan and the United States.
Cuba also plans to hold in June the Pan-American Championship for all weapons, qualifier to Lima 2019 Pan-American Games.
