Peruvian GM Emilio Cordova leads Mexican chess tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 19 (acn) With only one round left, Peruvian GM Emilio Cordova appears as leader of the Carlos Torre Repetto Chess Memorial Tournament with 7 points from possible 8.

In the last round, Cordova defeated American GM Alexander Ramirez and is escorted by Cuban GM Yusnel Bacallao, who yesterday signed peace with Ukrainian GM Pavlo Vorontsov and now totals 6.5 units.
They are followed by a group of five players who are tied in the third seat with 6 points that includes Cuban GMs Lazaro Bruzon, Yuri Gonzalez, Ermes Espinosa, Isan Ortiz and local GM Juan Gonzalez.
Bruzon, second in the domestic ranking, has won this tournament five times, four in a row, and is the current champion.
Today´s final round features very interesting pairings such as the ones involving Bruzon vs. Bacallao, the leader Cordova vs. Yuri Gonzalez, Vorontsov vs. Espinosa and Mexican Gonzalez vs. American Joshua Friedel.
