HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (acn) More than a hundred young fencers from 21 nations will compete this weekend in the FIE Junior Foil World Cup, for both sexes, at Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.
According to the website of the International Fencing Federation (FIE by its French acronym), there were 40 girls and 67 boys.
Most of the girls come from Canada (9), Mexico (5), and USA and Italy, both with four athletes.
The first seed of the girls´ event is Mexican Lydia Casillas, who appears 13th in the FIE ranking.
Meanwhile, Argentinean Augusto Servello (10th) is the first seeded in the boys´ event.
The contest will be attended by several countries such as United States, Canada, Austria, Mexico, Denmark, Peru, Australia, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Venezuela, Portugal, Serbia, Germany, Chile, UK, Spain, Egypt and Colombia.
Cuba registered three athletes in the contest for women and two to the one among men.
