HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 18 (acn) Turkey won the gold medal at the 2017 FIVB Women's U23 World Championship, which took place in the city of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where Cuba finished sixth.
According to the website of the contest, Turks defeated in straight sets (15-12, 15-11, 15-13 and 15-8) Slovenians in the final, while Cubans finished sixth when losing also 0-4 (12-15, 6-15, 8-15 and 13-15) to Brazilians, who eventually ranked fifth.
In the match against Brazil, Heidy Casanova was Cuba´s top scorer with 13 points, while Mayany Souza (10) and Drussyla Costa (9) stood out for the South Americans.
Bulgaria won the bronze medal when beating 4-2 (12-15, 15-8, 15-11, 16-18, 15-11 and 15-9) the Dominican Republic; while China finished seventh by defeating 4-2 (14-16, 12-15, 15-4, 16-14, 15-3 and 19-17) Thailand.
Cuba advanced to the 5th-8th semifinals after ranking fourth in Pool B with balance of two wins and three losses and once there, they beat 4-1 China on Saturday to then lose to Brazil in the 5 th place match.
