Cuban Shot Putter Finished 8th at World Athletic Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 9 (acn) Cuban shot putter Yaniubus Lopez finished on Wednesday in 8th place in the finals of the discipline at the London World Athletics Championship.

Lopez achieved her best throw in her third attempt with 18.03 meters superior to the 17.84 in the qualifying round.

China's Lijiao Gong assured the Gold Medal in her fifth throw while Anita Marton from Hungary obtained a 19.49 throw conquering the Silver medal.

US Michelle Carter (19.14), Olympic Champion in Rio de Janeiro last year got the Bronze medal, according to reports from the website of the International Athletics Federation.

Despite not reaching her season best 18.92 meters, Lopez finished as the top 8 in the world.

For the moment the Cuban delegation at the event has one Bronze medal that went to pole vaulter Yarisley Silva.

Silva Olympic medalist in Beijing 2015 shared third place with Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado, both jumping 4.65 meters.

Meanwhile, other outstanding performances went to Maykel Masso who finished in fifth place in long jump while Yorgelis Rodriguez ended in 4 th place in Heptathlon.

Cuba finished in 10th place at the World event held in China two years ago with two Gold and one Silver medal.
