HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 7 (acn) Manager Victor Mesa had an excellent debut with his new team Industriales in the 57th edition of the Cuban National Baseball Series
when beating 3-1 La Isla de la Juventud at Havana´s Latinoamericano stadium.
The match was an interesting duel between Adrian Sosa and loser Yunier Gamboa, as it was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning when the local side scored the decisive two runs.
After two outs, 2B Juan Carlos Torriente singled and Gamboa was replaced by ace reliever Danni Aguilera, who allowed Yordanis Samon´s second hit in the game and Jorge Tartabull´s two-RBI double.
The win went to rookie Andy Valdes, who successfully relieved Sosa mainly using his fastball.
Mesa announced Dairon Duran will be Industriales´ starting pitcher today.
Meanwhile, Granma, current monarch, lost at home for the second time, now 6-7, to Villa Clara at Martires de Barbados Park.
On the other hand, Pinar del Rio provided a 3-0 shutout to Camagüey, with Erlis Casanova, Reilandy Gonzalez and Frank Luis Medina in the mound, and Matanzas beat 5-1 Mayabeque with excellent pitching performance by lefty Yoanni Yera.
In other results, Cienfuegos defeated 4-2 Artemisa, Las Tunas won 5-2 over Sancti Spíritus and Santiago de Cuba beat 10-2 Holguin, while the Ciego de Ávila-Guantanamo match was suspended by rain.
