HAVANA, Cuba, July 4 (acn) Cuban Arlenis Sierra climbed to the tenth seat of the 2017 Giro d'Italia Femminile or Giro Rosa when finishing sixth in the time trial of 12.73 kilometers, in a stage won by Dutch Annemiek Van Vleuten.
Sierra, who runs for the Kazakh team of Astana, was 2.01 minutes slower than the winner, who stopped the clock in 25.29 minutes.
The also Dutch Anna Van Der Breggen, +41 seconds, and Italian Elisa Longo (+1.15 minutes), escorted Van Vleuten in the podium.
This result allows Van Der Breggen to continue on top of the general classification after five stages with time of 9.02.35 hours, followed by Longo, 1.00 minute behind, and Van Vleuten (1.36 minutes).
Sierra climbed three positions in this stretch and appears at 4.54 minutes from the leader and had managed to finish in the top ten in three of the five stages.
The other Cuban participating in this major event, Iraida Garcia, enrolled in the local side of the S.C. Michela Fanini Rox, ranks 110th at 20.07 minutes of the leader in the general individual classification.
The sixth stretch of 116.1 kilometers will take place today with start and finish in the town of Roseto degli Abruzzi.
The 2017 Giro Rosa, women´s biggest cycling tour, is a 10-day stage race attended by 24 squads and ends up on July 9th.
