Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Jul 4 (ACN) Students from Ciego de Avila began on Tuesday the National Sports Games with the objective of achieving a better outcome than the previous edition.
These competitions are a part of a program of activities organized by the National Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute (INDER) for the current summer months.
The province will have 262 athletes in the school competition in the disciplines of chess, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, diving, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, men and women's judo, karate, weight lifting, Greco Roman wrestling, wrestling, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, shooting and sailing.
The locals from Ciego de Avila will also compete in beach volleyball and basketball, leaders in their territory and will host the two modalities, said Mildred Rodriguez Santana, methodologist of the Sports School.
Beach volleyball is scheduled to begin on Wednesday until the 9 th with teams from the other provinces and the special municipality of the Isle of Youth.
The Giraldo Cordova Cardin indoor stadium will host men's basketball and the Sports Initiation School will be home to the women's squad from the 13th to the 19th, she said.
Ciego de Avila has finished 11th for four consecutive years and they are committed in improving their position this year.
During the second moment of the youth games, the Ciego de Avila delegation will have 69 athletes in athletics, boxing, fencing, karate, weightlifting, taekwondo, shooting and volleyball.
