Cuba lost last game in Can-Am league

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 30 (acn) Cuba finished last night, with a 5-6 loss to the Rockland Boulders, its participation in the Canadian-American Baseball League (CAN-AM), in match played at Palisades Park.

The Caribbean squad opened the score in the very first inning thanks to an RBI-single by OF Dennis Laza.
But the hosts replied with four runs against Cuban starter and loser Alain Sanchez, who allowed three hits, including Jon Smith´s solo homer and a two-RBI homer by Joe Maloney.
Cubans scored twice in the sixth frame, but the Boulders counterattacked with another run in the bottom of the seventh.
The team managed by Roger Machado managed to score two more runs in the eighth though fell short and the final score was 6-5 for the American club.
DH Yosvani Alarcon, who hit 2-2, triple and double, with two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored; and SS Raul Gonzalez (3 for 4) were the highlights for the losing side.
The Cuban team had an unfavorable balance of 5 wins and 16 losses.
This same squad will flight to the US state of South Carolina, where they will hold a friendly match against the American national college team until July 7th.
