Cuba beats TT, reaches quarterfinals in Pan American Volleyball CupHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 22 (acn) Cuba advanced to quarterfinals when beating Trinidad and Tobago in the final day for group B of the 16th edition of the 2017 Women´s Pan American Volleyball Cup, with stage at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum, in Lima, Peru.

After defeating 3-1 Canada, losing 1-3 to the hosts, beat 3-0 Chile and fall 0-3 to the Dominican Republic, Cubans won yesterday 3-0 (25-14, 25-21 and 25-21).
In the other matches of this group, the DR and Canada won both 3-0 over Peru and Chile, respectively.
With that result, Dominicans topped the standings with 5 wins and no loss and Peru, Cuba and Canada (3-2) finished in that same order due to better ratio.
Heidy Casanova offensively highlighted for the winning side with 15 points, supported by Regla Gracia (13), while Kristle Esdelle (16) excelled for the losers.
United States, also undefeated in five outings, headed Poole A followed by Puerto Rico (4-1), Argentina (3-2), Colombia (2-3), Venezuela (1-4) and Mexico (0-5).
Now Cuba will face Puerto Rico and Peru will have Argentina as opponent in quarterfinals and the winners will rival Dominicans and Americans who directly advanced to semifinals as group leaders.
Cuba won the first version of this contest in 2002 and repeated in 2004, 2005 and 2007, while Americans did it in 2003, 2012, 2013 and 2015, Dominicans triumphed in 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2016, and Brazilians, who do not participate now, were the champions in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
