HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 19 (acn) Yaime Perez starred Cuba´s best performance in the sixth stop of the Athletics Diamond League based in Stockholm, Sweden, where she won the crown of the women´s discus throw event, setting the second season best record of the year.
Perez, who ranked fourth at the Beijing 2015 World Championship, reached 67.92 meters to win the gold medal in hard struggle with Croat two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic (67.75).
With that outstanding performance, Perez added eight points and now totals 19 in three appearances in the event, only behind Perkovic (23), who also owns the season best with 70.23 m.
German Nadine Muller (65.74) won the bronze medal this time; while the also Cuban Denia Caballero (60.48) finished fifth, according to IAAF official website.
In the case of Caballero, world monarch two years ago and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, accumulates 16 units and appears third, tied with Muller.
The Caribbean nation was also represented in that contest in Sweden by pole vaulter Yarisley Silva and Rose Mary Almanza (women´s 800m), who ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.
Silva could barely score 4.55 m this time, widely inferior to what she achieved three days ago in Oslo, Norway, where she won the gold medal with 4.81 meters.
